People who have it in their power to decline a resignation, nevertheless do not do so. By their cowardice, they cast their lot with the Maoists, and declare allegiance to tyrants on the rise.
They both want to deploy raw, illegal power to suppress lies, to give their side the upper hand in endless info wars. Neither side cares about the price in freedom. They only care who wins.
