We lived with these obvious drawbacks to union power and monopoly politics for a long time before the pandemic. Many parents hope that teachers’ unions bad press and clear-cut use of the great awokening to serve their own purposes during the past year will permanently weaken that power. Let’s see.
One side hoists the American flag and attacks the Capitol. Another side appears stronger, more insistent, and altogether willing to tar its opponents with charges of racism. “Silence is violence,” they say. Once you feed that dog, you cannot stop feeding it.
If you convince people that government and large tech platforms need to police information in order to guarantee its accuracy, then you have control. Then you can decide what information remains in the public arena, and what information does not. Then you have the anti-democratic ideal of restricted speech.
The purpose of social retribution for social missteps has nothing to do with safety.
People who have it in their power to decline a resignation, nevertheless do not do so. By their cowardice, they cast their lot with the Maoists, and declare allegiance to tyrants on the rise.
They both want to deploy raw, illegal power to suppress lies, to give their side the upper hand in endless info wars. Neither side cares about the price in freedom. They only care who wins.

The next issue of Reed should contain a letter that acknowledges the damage RAR did to Reed’s reputation. It would not make anyone feel better at this point, and I know it won’t appear anyway, but it might make reconciliation more likely down the line.
I like that capital G on Government. That’s exactly what the internet needs: new, Government-imposed rules to prevent companies like Facebook from mismanaging their responsibilities.
Their inability even to perceive or understand the concept of a double standard suggests they must be cynical, or stupid. Either way, you wonder why they expect anyone to listen. They waste our time.
