Corruption corrodes democracy, and produces cynicism. Cynicism does not cause our difficulties. It results from them.
I have always thought that presidents do not have to be all that intelligent. You need a lot of qualities, but you don’t need to be a genius. You do need to be able to think, though.
Yet for its victims, the law presses its knee on your neck until you die. It threatens your life – no one cares to be equal before that.
Start with budgets, leadership, employment contracts and qualifications, disciplinary processes, training programs: administrative details every organization must address to function effectively. Academic concepts like systemic racism do not give you traction you need for deep change.
We need to accept the fact that this president, if given the opportunity, will try to be a dictator.
